It’s our 7th Annual U CAN-CER VIVE UR My Valentine event! We are so grateful to be able to give back each year… Our hope is to bring love and smiles into the room as a cancer patient receives their gift from us on Valentine’s Day!

These heartfelt Valentine’s Day deliveries to our local Michigan hospitals includes a custom U CAN-CER VIVE Valentine’s Day package that will be delivered to a deserving child or adult spending Valentine’s Day in the hospital. UCANCERVIVE Supports Ground Breaking Research at Karmanos Cancer Institute

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute announced being the first institute in the world to prescribe a new special kind of treatment for advanced liver cancer at home using electromagnetic waves – a device known as the “TheraBionic P1.”

Co-inventor Dr. Boris Pasche explained that the device has the ability to treat a patient’s primary tumor and spreading of cancer throughout their body. The electromagnetic treatment, which two Karmanos patients have already been prescribed, is intended to block tumor growth without affecting healthy tissue, according to a news release.

U CAN-CER VIVE is proud to be a nonprofit here in Michigan that devotes 100% of profits raised to help support vital cancer research here in Michigan. When doctors and researchers from Karmanos came to U CAN-CER VIVE to share this groundbreaking information, asking for support with funding the progression of this research, our board and committee members felt compelled to help! With financial support from our foundation, we look forward to watching this research thrive. It will allow for many additional Michigan Cancer patients to find success in their treatment plans.

It was an unforgettable evening as we came together to raise vital funds for cancer research at our 2024 Disco Fever Evening for the Cure on June 7, 2024. As an annual event of ours, it surely went above all expectations as we danced the night away. We are proud to share that, with YOUR support, we raised an outstanding $650,000 that will be donated directly to cancer research here in Michigan. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!

U CAN-CER VIVE Funds $400K Cancer Research with Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute

In March of 2024 U CAN-CER-VIVE Foundation awarded Suresh Balasubramanian, M.D., and his team of investigators a $405,315 grant for their continued research, titled “Biological Aging and Mutational/Immunological Signatures as Prognostic and Predictive Biomarkers for Treatment of Hematological Malignancies.”

“Receiving such generous backing from the U CAN-CER VIVE foundation is truly significant. Their consistent support for Michigan Researchers over the past several years has been instrumental in advancing scientific research,” said Dr. Balasubramanian. “This grant will enable us to employ the latest scientific techniques to finetune and validate a new biomarker in different clinical settings, which has the potential to transform the care of our patients.”

Dr. Balasubramanian is a hematologist and medical oncologist specializing in the treatment of clonal hematopoiesis, myelodysplasia, leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. He’s also a member of the Hematology Oncology and Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis Multidisciplinary Teams, and the Molecular Therapeutics (MT) Research Program at Karmanos. He and his team of investigators are exploring the idea of estimating biological age as a better surrogate to determine treatment decisions for certain cancers as opposed to chronological age. Chronological age takes into the number of birthdays a patient has, whereas biological age would help consider various changes that happen in a patient’s body at the tiny level of cells and their parts.
